On this event in accordance with the decision of the Senate of the University of Szeged, we express our gratitude by giving a title as a recognition of any outstanding public or artistic work or significant moral or financial support to our university or one of its units.

The title Senator Honoris Causa was awarded to Prof. Dr. Violet I. Haraszthy, professor at State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine by Professor Katalin Nagy, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Professor Violet I. Haraszthy, whose professional and scientific career started at the Faculty of Dentistry University of Szeged, has been working as an Associate Professor at the Department of Restorative Dentistry of the internationally well-known University at Buffalo since 2007, utilizing the knowledge she attained at our University.

She is a member of several international scientific associations, including the American Dental Association, the American Association of Dental Research, the American Academy of Periodontology, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Although Professor Haraszthy has been working as an Associate Professor Overseas, she cherishes a close scientific and educational relationship with her Alma Mater and participates actively in the undergraduate and postgraduate education as guest lecturer at our Faculty.

Thanks to the strong ties between the Research Institute in Buffalo and the Faculty of Dentistry at our University, some of our undergraduate and postdoctoral students have had the chance to spend one-to- three months long study visits to Buffalo at the invitation of Professor Haraszthy with the purpose of broadening their scientific knowledge.

As an outcome of the collaboration between the two Faculties, three joint articles have been published, and, at present, there are two scientific research projects currently underway.

The title „Senator Honoris Causa’ expresses our gratitude and appreciation toward Professor Haraszthy for showing exceptional commitment towards her Alma Mater and honors her for her distinguished merits and exceptional personality.
