Established in 2012, the Department of Oral Biology and Experimental Dental Research is a brand new department created by the Faculty of Dentistry to meet the requirements of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee and strengthen the postgradual PhD program as well as the scientific and research base of the Faculty. The main task of the new department is teaching Oral Biology, Biology for Dental Students and Physics for Dental Students. Oral biology is a complex discipline dealing with the functions of the oral cavity and its structures as well as their interactions with other organs of the body.
In addition, we also take part in teaching Dental Materials and Technology, Oral Surgery III, and Dental Implantology. In accordance with the European Union curriculum, members of the department developed novel courses in Hungarian and English, including Bio- and Alloplastic Materials in Dentistry as well as Dental Biometry and Evaluation of Research Results.
Oral biology forms a bridge between preclinical and clinical subjects and all over the world Oral Biology Departments used to be involved in dental research. In line with this tradition, coworkers of the new department do research on their special topics. In addition, they feel it important to help dental students in the acquisition of a scientific attitude. They are involved in the education of undergraduates active in the Scientific Students’ Association and support the work of postgradual PhD students. The new department has strong ties and joint research projects with the other departments of the Faculty and the dentist colleagues of the Department are involved in the dental treatment of patients, too.
