Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry

The Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry is the largest department of the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Szeged. In addition to training, the Department is involved in basic patient treatment, specialized treatment, and higher level specialized treatment.

The Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry of the Faculty of Dentistry is involved in training, research, and patient care. Graduate and post-graduate training focuses on implementing a uniform approach to treatment, based on the dissemination of best scientific knowledge, the well thought through, transparent, and critical application of treatment methods in line with the specific clinical situation, in order to promote efficient patient care, success in recovery rates, and an aesthetically appealing, healthy dentition.

Higher level treatment is offered to handle abnormalities which require special treatment carried out in a “team-based” system (e.g., surgical orthodontic treatment of dysgnathia, interdisciplinary treatment of cleft lips and palates, etc.).

As a result of institutional integration, child and school dental service facilities with a regional health care obligation (regions established on the basis of educational institutions) also operate under the auspices of the Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry. Nine of these service facilities operate inside school buildings, while the remaining three work in facilities of the Clinic. Orthodontic care of children in the city of Szeged and its region is accomplished on the basis of referrals to the Policlinic at Vasas Szent Péter utca.
